Q&A

Q. Before working at Vaell, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

A. During my time at school, we had to do a community based attachment and I worked as a teacher for early child development classes. It was quite a challenge for me as not only had I never really taught, I was also not used to being around kids with allt heir playfulness. Eventually, I got the hang of it and when I'm walking around our family home in Chuka, the kids always shout "Teacher Githinji!" when they see me.

Q. How has Vaell helped you in your career development?

A. At Vaell, I have had to work with multpile departments, sometimes at once, in order to complete objectives set out for me. This has helped me to appreciate other people's work as well as get a grasp of how others work. Furthermore, in terms of planning and organization, Vaell has helped me become more responsible when it comes to planning my activties and sticking to the timelines I have set for myself. There are many more smaller things that you pick up along the way such as communication skills, teamwork and self-discipline amongst others.

Q.  What are 3 words you could use to describe Vaell?

A. Hmmm..... Innovative, organized and educative.

Q. Do you recall any embarrassing moment at work?

A. Hahaha. I remember one day I slid and fell in mud as I was headed to work. Imagine the laughs that erupted when I showed up half covered in mud.

 Q. What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

A. I would probably be doing data science. I've had prior training in the field and would have loved to practise it, especially for research.

 Q. What would you tell your younger self?

A. I would tell him to be more active in more extra-curriculum activities and be more social. I tended to be the kid stuck behind a book so I would tell him to enjoy his younger days a bit more.
